THERESA Torr, the Salvation Army’s new minister in Taunton said she is settling well into her new role.

Theresa was ordained back in June and this is her first appointment as minister.

She has moved down from London and said she is enjoying the beautiful countryside life.

She added: “Before I was called to this role I worked as a registered nurse with adults with learning difficulties.

“I’m a mature person, I have a family and life experience and when I had this calling from God I thought I could use my experiences to benefit the community.

“It is challenging as I am newly ordained but I’m really enjoying it, it’s all a learning curve.

“This is a really lovely part of world and the people I have met from the church and from the community have all been very accepting and I am looking forward to working together with them.”

Theresa said her role means she is a pastor not just for the church but also for the community.

“The Salvation Army get very involved in community life, and this is something I want to do.

“I want to be what the community wants me to be, I am here as a minister of the Salvation Army but it is about the people who are needy and helping with their everyday life.”

A coffee morning will be held on October 5 for people to get to know Theresa and to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event will take place at the Salvation Army on South Street in Taunton from 10.30am.

People are invited to visit the church for worship on Sundays at 10.30am and stay for a coffee and a chat at 11.30.

They are keen to raise awareness of the work it does in the community and all are welcome.
