POLICE in Bridgwater carried out a dramatic drugs raid on a property in the Hamp area of the town last Thursday.

A warrant was issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act as officers smashed down a front down at a home on Stoke Close in an operation in which one female, aged 44, was arrested. On their Twitter feed the police said weapons and drugs were seized.

PC 4621 Jen Atkinson said: "The community and surrounding residents had concerns over suspected drug dealing activities and associated anti-social behaviour. We therefore have taken pro-active action to address these concerns. We hope our activities today will reassure people that we do listen. If anyone has any information regarding drug dealing or any other crime in their community, then please do get in touch with us either via our website or the 101 number."

The police said quantities of Class A and Class B drugs were discovered and taken away for forensic examination.

Parents in the area had been concerned that drug dealing was taking place in the local park and play areas. Police said that this community intelligence led them to investigate the activities of the female involved and other dealers and prepared evidence ahead of their raid.

They said the operation was part of an ongoing probe into illegal drugs and anti-social activity through Bridgwater and district by the police team in the town.
