STAFF at an animal charity are desperately seeking a soul mate for a lonely lovebird.

Jade is the only bird of her kind at the RSPCA’s West Hatch centre and workers there feel sorry for her being on her lonesome – if indeed ‘she’ is a ‘her’.

Animal care assistant Karen Reed said it is difficult to sex lovebirds, but paired birds, which are monogamous, spend long periods sitting together.

She added: “Lovebirds are sociable animals and Jade is not hand tame so is likely to be lonely.

“Unfortunately we haven't any other lovebirds we can try to house with her to give her the company she needs, so she is pretty lonely.

“We’d love to find her a new home to go to with a new friend as soon as we can.”

Jade was taken to the RSPCA when her owner could no longer keep her.

Karen added: “At the moment she is living in a large aviary at the centre and really enjoys sitting outside in the sunshine.

“We don't think Jade is used to having much fresh food from her previous owner as she will currently only eat seed.

“Lovebirds are generally quite playful birds and do like to spend time destroying things like cardboard tubes and boxes but I don't think poor Jade has had much opportunity to do anything like that as she is a very quiet bird.

“It would be lovely to find her a home as we all feel very sorry for her all alone.”
