WELLINGTON has taken delivery of the Christmas tree which will sit at the heart of the town this festive season.

The tree, which is around 20ft tall, was delivered on Thursday morning after being harvested at Langford Lakes, which has donated the town tree for more than a decade.

A Wellington Town Council spokesman said: "It is a great effort to cut such a tree down, then load onto a trailer and unload and erect the tree in an urban town centre.

"The DLO removed the plant pots in order to make room for the tree which they then carefully lifted from the trailer into place. It takes some time and is quite a complex operation.

"Warren's Bakery came out and kindly gave complimentary hot drinks to the men from Langford Lakes and the DLO working in the rain to bring Christmas spirit to the town."

Wellington mayor, Councillor Janet Lloyd, was there to thank all involved.

The Christmas lights in Wellington wil be switched on tomorrow - Saturday - at a special event which runs from 4pm until 7pm.
