A MAN managed to disarm a knife-wielding attacker who turned up at his house, Taunton Magistrates' Courts heard.

Sean Carroll, 21, claimed he was provoked into the attack by threats from the other man.

The two of them ended up grappling with each other on the ground before the victim managed to free the knife by biting Carroll's hand.

Carroll, of Greenway Road, Rockwell Green, admitted possessing a 19cm knife in a public place and threatening another person with it in such a way that there was an immediate risk of serious physical harm.

The court was told that he went to Westford Grange, in Wellington, and confronted the other man, produced the knife, which he raised and waved in the complainant's face on October 20.

The other man said: "What are you doing? You don't need a knife to sort this out - I haven't got a knife."

The men then struggled with each other on the floor before the complainant bit Carroll's hand, forcing him to drop the knife, which the complainant kicked away.

A statement from the complainant said: "If he turns up again, there will be repercussions."

Ian Denley, defending Carroll, who had not appeared in court before, said he had been threatened by the other man, who received a minor cut under his eye during the incident.

The case was sent to Taunton Crown Court for sentencing on December 18, with the Probation Service ordered to write a pre-sentence report.

Carroll was released on conditional bail.
