PORLOCK Hill could be set to be the stunning backdrop for a new music festival it was announced this week.

Young entrepreneurs Flora Blathwayt and Josh Beauchamp set the ball rolling via the website crowdfunder and have managed to get £20,000 in backing from more than 200 supporters.

The eco-friendly Samphire Festival aims to be family friendly and feature thirty acts appearing over two main stages.

The duo have planned the three day festival to run from the 8th-10th July and will host an eclectic mix of music including folk, funk, reggae, house, ska, jazz and pop, as well as art, drama and comedy performances.

Music journalist and co-founder Flora Blathwayt said: "We're so excited to be bringing Samphire into the festival mix next year and to be turning our vision into a reality.

"Our event offers people the chance to reconnect with nature and enjoy a brilliant weekend with like-minded people.

"We're so thankful to everyone who has pledged and help us get Samphire off the ground."

Flora and Josh said Samphire will have an eco-friendly ethos including compost loos, solar powered stages, wind turbines and stainless steel pint cups to create a no plastic policy on site.

The organisers want to encourage people put their digital lives on hold for the weekend, getting back to basics and enjoying their natural surroundings.
There will also be workshops and games including wood-carving, painting, yoga, human snakes and ladders, den building, as well as local craft beer, ciders and food.

Performers who have already signed up include BBC Introducing talent Violet Skies, folk rock four-piece Hunter and the Bear, highly rated House DJ Ralph Lawson and comedian Lolly Adefope, who was picked by the London Standard as one of the 'fresh faces for 2016'.
