A TAUNTON man took on a gruelling challenge and battled the elements to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Steve Barclay kayaked all the whole from Taunton and back again on Saturday February 6.

It took him a total time of 12 hours to complete, beginning at 4am at Taunton Firepool.

He then kayaked to Bridgwater Docks and was cheered back into Taunton by his family and friends, where he completed his challenge in the River Tone next to the Firepool site at 4pm.

Steve's wife, Amy Barclay, said: "Well, he did it, bless him.

"It was the worst weather you could imagine though.

"I would like to say a huge thank you for all the support on the day that Steve took on his challenge, from his friends meeting him and kayaking a few miles together, to all his family and friends meeting him at the finish line.

"It took him a long 12 hours, starting at 4am to 4pm.

"To help with the fundraising, we had a coffee and cake morning, raffle and after school sale.

"I'd like to thank all those who donated prizes, such as Lakeland, Wyevale Garden Centre, Tesco and Phoenix Cards.

"Cotford Saint Luke Primary School showed their support by wearing red for the day.

"Currently we don't know how much we raised as we still have donations coming in."
