IT’S time to gear up and don your cycle helmet or walking boots for the annual Rotary Club of Taunton 50/50 charity cycle ride/walk.

Over the past 20 years , the event has raised more than £180,000 for charities in Somerset and further afield.

This year’s event will be helping to raise money for the Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) and a charity of your choice.

It will be taking place on Sunday, May 15 , and this year you can take part on a 10 or 24-mile scenic family friendly cycle route.

Spokesman for the event, Bob Greenwood, said there would be something for everyone.

“The 50/50 principle allows riders and walkers to donate 50 per cent of their sponsorship monies to a charity of their own choice, but the main Rotary 50 per cent beneficiary this year will be CHSW, who celebrate their Silver Jubilee in 2016,” he said.

He added: “For the non-cyclists, there is a gentle four-mile walk suitable for families and dogs , and in conjunction with Richard Huish College , a 43-mile Sporti v Time Trial for the serious cyclists .

“All star t and finish, at the Genesis Centre at Somerset College.”
