POLICE are continuing enquiries into the death of a man following a car crash near Minehead Monday morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene outside the Blue Anchor hotel shortly before 11am on Monday morning.

Police were forced to close the road before the man was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

However, he died of his injuries shortly after.

It is believed that the man is a local resident, aged in his 50s.

The road was closed hours following the incident, as the emergency services worked and police launched an investigation into the crash as they try to piece together exactly what happened.

Speaking this morning, a spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said police were continuing with their enquiries.

Now, local residents have spoken of the moments following the crash.

Poppy Ferguson, who works at the nearby Driftwood Café, said the incident had ‘rocked the whole community’.

She said: “There was lots of sirens driving through, so we knew something serious had happened as that is very unusual for here.

“It has shocked the whole community really, it really has.”

One eye-witness, who did not want to be named, added: “I was coming back from shopping and the road was completely shut off.

“There was a lot of police there, and there were some road traffic collision investigators as well.

“It’s quite a dangerous road because there’s a steep hill going down into it.”

Police have now launched a witness appeal to try and aid them in their investigations.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to help them.

Anyone able to help is asked to contact the force collision investigation unit on 101, quoting log 0299 of Monday.
