SOMERSET cricket star Marcus Trescothick has thrown his weight behind the 21st annual Rotary Club of Taunton's 50/50 Cycle Ride and Walk on Sunday, May 15.

The Children's Hospice South West is the event's chosen charity, but participants will be able to donate half of the sponsorship they raise to a charity of their choice.

Trescothick said: "Children’s Hospice South West is a cause that is very close to my heart. In recent years I have been involved in a number of fund raising activities on their behalf.

“I have visited their hospice in Barnstaple on a number of occasions and know just how vital the work that CHSW carry out is to the children and their families, so I am only too delighted to be able to lend my support this event.”

People can either cycle ten or 20 miles along the Bridgwater to Taunton Canal, while walkers can cover four-miles around Longrun Meadows, Netherclay Wood and Longaller.

In conjunction with Richard Huish College, there is a 43-mile Sportiv time trial or more serious cyclists.

The events start and finish at Somerset College, in Taunton.

Entry forms are available around Taunton, including Ralph Colman Cycles, Taunton Tourist Information Centre, the County Gazette offices in St James Street or from The Cycle Ride Administrator, Brindles, 16 Campion Drive, Taunton, TA1 3XE.
