CANCER information and support is coming to the people of Taunton on Tuesday May 10, courtesy of Macmillan Cancer Support’s mobile service.

A team of cancer information specialists will be stopping off in Somerset to answer questions, provide support and inform people about local cancer.

The service is open to anyone, no matter what your concern - whether you’re living with or beyond cancer, or are a loved one or carer for someone who is.

Dying Matters Awareness Week is taking place between May 9 and 15 this year and it is an opportunity to open up conversations about dying, death and bereavement.

While in Taunton, the Macmillan mobile team will be encouraging anyone affected by cancer to come and see them if they have questions or concerns.

If you or a loved one has received a terminal cancer diagnosis, for example, the team can provide information on palliative and end of life care, advance care planning and local support services, among many other topics.

There is also information and support available for those who have been bereaved.

Macmillan has recently produced a new bereavement booklet, providing practical and emotional support after someone dies – these will be available on board, or you can download it for free at https://be.macmillan.org.uk/be/p-22997-after-someone-dies-coping-with-bereavement.aspx

Mary Mountford-Lister, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Specialist on board the mobile unit, said: “Receiving a terminal diagnosis of cancer is a very emotionally difficult thing to deal with, for carers and loved ones as well as the patient.

"During what can be a confusing and distressing time, we want to make sure you have all the information and support you need.

"If you have questions you want answered or if you just want to talk, come and see us – no appointment is needed and anyone is welcome.”

“We’re also here for anyone else affected by cancer, no matter what your worry on concern.

"We can provide information on a range of issues including different treatments, financial advice, exercise, getting back to work, or what local services might be on offer for you. You can even just stop by for a chat.”
