TAUNTON Deane Male Voice Choir's first foreign trip in its 70-year history was such a hit that members are already talking of going abroad again.
A party of 70 from the group, formed in 1946, visited Taunton's twin town of Lisieux, in Normandy, with chairman John Capell saying the men enjoyed the French hospitality so much that they've gained a taste for future foreign trips.
Lisieux’s Mayor M. Bernard Aubril welcomed the choir at a reception at the Hotel de Ville, where Mr Capell presented him with a slate plaque to mark the visit.
The choir performed in Moyaux Church and Lisieux Cathedral led by musical director Nick Thomas and accompanied by Hazel Reed.
The guest soloist was soprano Mary Morgan, from the USA, who lives in Somerset, while French choir Chorale Coup d’Choeur performed a set of songs at the cathedral and the two choirs combined to sing Amazing Grace.
The Deane choir also sang at the Pegasus Bridge Museum, which is dedicated to the 6th Airborne Division and its role during the Battle of Normandy, in 1944.
