A TRANSFORMATION at Halcon Primary School has now begun, with a boost to the teaching team, classrooms and management.

The 150 children returning to Halcon in September will see a £185,000 investment in their school with a revamped layout, a new name, uniform, members of the teaching team and the nursery integrated into the school.

Extra facilities will be used to provide more family support and one to one teaching.

The changes are thanks to a new link with The Redstart Learning Partnership.

Carly Wilkins, has been appointed to be head of School and joins from Hamp Academy, Bridgwater, where she was the assistant head and year six class teacher.

From September, the school will be re-launched as the Minerva Primary School and families are being provided with new school uniforms that will feature the symbol of Minerva, an owl.

New uniform is being provided for free to all families.

Executive principal of The Redstart Learning Partnership, Suzanne Flack, said: "This is a very exciting time for Halcon Primary School.

"The community deserves a local school that they can feel proud to attend with high quality facilities, teaching and leadership.

"With our investment and support I believe families will notice rapid improvements.

"At the end of the summer term work will start immediately to make better use of the site and improve security.

"I look forward to welcoming families to Minerva Primary School in September."

Head of school, Carly Wilkins, said: "In the few weeks that I’ve been head of school I’ve seen a real willingness to work together to bring back families to their community school.

"The new school name, from the Roman goddess of wisdom, links us to the Roman Road and provides a platform on which to build a new identity.

"The building work will help transform the look and feel of Halcon and being part of the partnership will also bring extra teaching and learning expertise into the school."
