Dairy Cattle (64): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a similar sized entry to last week but better quality saw the best trade for the top end since the early Spring. Poorer quality still difficult to place at half the price of the best!!! A run of 10 calved heifers from Mr R Rowe, Spaxton sold to £1800, £1790, £1670, £1650 and £1500 to average £1501, when 2 West Wales purchasers were in attendance. The trade kept up all the way through and other heifers sold to £1620 from Messrs RL & ME Trott; £1460 from Mr NC Taylor; £1400 from Mr AP Ractliffe; £1390 from Messrs M & K Churchill & Son and £1310 from Messrs RJ & SR Bunn.

Best cows to £1530 from Mr MC Powell.

Pedigree Ayrshire calved heifers to £1040 from Harry Bolderston who had several Ayrshires to £600 and weaned calves to £380. Swedish Red cross bred heifers to £1130 from Mr D Tottle. Jersey cross Friesian to £960 from Mr A Taylor.

Store Cattle, Sucklers & Stirks (1091): Store Cattle & Grazing Cows (705): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a tremendous June entry of 705 store cattle, 51% up on the year and part of 1091 with the stirks and sucklers, which met another very strong trade. Ringside packed with buyers, a pleasure to sell in front of. Not generally the strength of last week as yarded cattle come to an end but some superb quality cattle on offer, for which Vendors must be congratulated and thanked. Trade probably dearer again as although the shape was often on show, weight due to lack of age was not.

Top was £1285 for an outstanding (U+3) Limousin steer (28m & FA) from Mr DH & Mrs SM Churchill. A 15m (yes 15m) Charolais steer out of an Angus cow from Mr SJ & Mrs DM Cowling, Raleighs Cross, shot to £1215 and others similarly bred from the same farm hit £1055 (13m) and £1015 (12/13m). Further fleshed Limousin steers at £1190 (22m & FA) and £1130 (23m & FA) from Mrs FG Payne & Sons, Wellington and £1150 (26m & FA) Mr S Legg & Son, Hampton. A really well grown Limousin (23m & FA) from Mr TA Blackshire, St Austell achieved £1185. Flashy, pure bred Limousins from Messrs R Jones & Son, Dulverton hit £1180. Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an increased entry of 99 barren cattle met a very similar trade for the out the parlour types but meat cows were a touch easier.
