INSTEAD of running a marathon, ten-year-old Jacob Hill will be running a mile a day for 26 consecutive days to raise money for disabled children in Africa.

Jacob, otherwise known as Jakey, from Taunton, wanted to use his love of sport to help those in need.

He will be running to raise money for a Bristol-based charity Motiva- tion that works to help disabled boys and girls in poor counties across Africa by providing wheelchairs.

In particular, he wants to help the ‘When I Grow Up’ appeal which will aid children in Uganda.

Proud mum, Joanna Hall, works for the charity as head of fundrais- ing and Jakey decided raise some much needed money to help his mum’s work.

She said she was delighted with his dedication and awareness of the cause.

She said: “I am incredibly proud of him.

“He has so much get up and go and is doing something so special.

“I’m not sure if I will be able to keep up with him, he is fast.

“I might have to ride my bike alongside him instead.”

Jakey said: “I know a mile a day doesn’t sound like much, but the challenge will be doing it every day whatever the weather, even through storms if necessary.

“The only downside, but also good for me, is that I will have less time for laziness and technology in the house!”

His runs started this week and will continue for 26 days.

Any donations Jakey receives before August 3 will be match-funded through the Department for International Development (DFID) as part of the UK Aid Match scheme.

Jakey set a target of £300 and has already exceeded that.

The intrepid youngster now he hopes to raise as much as possible for disabled children in Africa.
