RUMWELL Farm Shop and Cafe is celebrating after being announced as a regional finalist for a national award.

The shop has been selected as a South West finalist in the Red Ribbon Awards, and the ceremony will be held at Wembley Stadium on Friday, July 15.

Anne Mitchell, co-owner of the farm shop, said: “We’re delighted to be a regional finalist in this year’s Red Ribbon Awards.

"We are proud to be a family-run, independent business and it is fantastic to be recognised for this.

“The Red Ribbon Awards are the first and only independent awards to recognise and celebrate the incredible achievements of enterprising families, regardless of size or industry.”

Britain is home to more than three million family firms.

The Red Ribbon Awards, which are now in their seventh year, have grown to become the highest national accolade for family businesses and the entrepreneurs who lead them.

After hundreds of nominations and a national tour of Britain, the 2016 Regional Finalists were recently announced and these finalists will come together at Wembley Stadium on July 15 where the 10 National Winners will be announced.

Anne added: “We originally started life as a potato store back in 1996, when we began selling our potatoes and free range eggs at the gate. The business arose from a need to sell surplus produce from our farm.

“Due to customer demand, our range of products increased and the farm shop grew into the business it is today. Our sons, James and Jack, are now involved, as well as our daughter-in-law Sophie.”

More than 300 people from all over the UK will be at the event to celebrate Britain’s finest family firms.

Amalia Brightley-Gillott, director of the Red Ribbon Awards, says: “This year we’ve seen more nominations than ever before. I’m always astounded by how many exciting, innovative and entrepreneurial businesses are out there, driven by the country’s most entrepreneurial Business leaders.

“There are more than three million family firms and they employ one in three people. These Awards are about recognising those businesses, the real engine room of Britain’s economy.”

Regional finalists will represent their area of the UK at the National Red Ribbon Awards Ceremony at Wembley Stadium on July 15.
