A WILDLIFE weekend is taking part at a garden centre near Taunton - with creatures and creepy crawlies to meet and greet.

The Madagascar-themed weekend will take place at Monkton Elm Garden Centre and is being held with Exmoor Zoo.

Youngsters can go along in their best wildlife costumes and meet representatives from the zoo as well as animals on July 23 and 24.

Liz Woodward, Pet Centre manager at the garden centre, said: “Our Wildlife Weekends are always well attended and we know how popular the Madagascar children’s films are so this year we have decided that the theme of the weekend is the Island of Madagascar.

“Representatives from Exmoor Zoo will be joining us on each day to talk to visitors about wildlife and the environment and they’ll be bringing a selection of creatures for children to meet too.

“Myself and the rest of the team will be dressed as lemurs on the day and youngsters are welcome to come along dressed up too.

"There will be a treasure hunt taking place where children will be able to search for wild unicorns, which the Craft Centre have made in order to raise money for Conquest Centre in Taunton.”

The Wildlife Weekend will take place during normal garden centre opening hours on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24.
