A MILVERTON mum, who is taking on the Ocean 7s challenge, has premiered the trailer for the film set to be made about her life.

Beth French, who overcame ME, is preparing to swim a series of channels that have only been completed by six people in their lifetimes.

She is hoping to break records by being the first and only person to do this in the space of a year.

The single mum of one held an exclusive screening of the project's trailer at the Creative Innovation Centre in Taunton on July 6, talking about her experiences and answering questions.

"This challenge is a bid to become the first person ever to swim Ocean 7s in one year," said Beth.

"I terrify myself and channel swimming is the fear of the unknown, but I like it.

"When I was younger i would often be in so much pain that I couldn't even brush my hair, due to the ME.

"Then when I was 17 I had to be in a wheelchair.

"I came through it and I've proved to myself I can overcome it."

Beth first got a taste of outdoor channel swimming when she tackled the English Channel, although had always been a keen water baby when she was younger.

"I swam the English channel and discovered I liked it," she said.

"I love going towards the horizon and further- life is just one more step, one more stroke.

"My second swim was in Hawaii and I'm reminded that it;s my choice to put my body through this.

"As you're swimming along, you go deeper into the layers of your personality.

"It teaches you about yourself and the adventure happens on the way.

"I was the first person to swim from Cornwall to the Isles of Scilly, and I'm still a mum to my son Dylan along the way."

Beth's challenge will begin in September when she tackles the North Channel, from Ireland to Scotland.

Film director, Stefan Stuckert, attended the screening and spoke to the audience about the film he is putting together about Beth's challenge.

"My channels are the North Channel, Catalina Channel, Molokai Channel, Cook Straight, Strait of Gibraltar, Tsgaru and the English Channel.

"There is five weeks between each of the first three channels, then two months, then three months and then six weeks.

"I'm the most concerned about the Ireland channel because only 13 people have managed to swim it.

"It's only with community support that I can do this and having people on the boat and kayaking alongside me is just amazing.

"Five people have completed Oceans 7 and nobody has done it in a year.

"I'm doing this for my seven year old, Dylan, who has Sensory Processing Disorder.

"I want to teach him that you can fulfill your potential and he's coming with me."
