AROUND 30 patients' operations were postponed after the power supply went down at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital today (Tuesday, July 19).

Bosses decided to close operating theatres as a precaution after the problems with the power supply to the Queen's Building.

A spokeswoman said the outage resulted in "some interruption to wards and theatres". The situation has now been resolved.

She added: "We immediately took action to try and identify the cause of the problem and to ensure that our patients were safe and well cared for.

"This unfortunately meant us having to postpone some operations during the afternoon so that we could be sure that no patients were put at risk should there be another outage."

When there is a power outage at Musgrove, the supply is switched to back up generators.

The spokeswoman said: "Once we had identified the cause of the problem, we switched back over to the generators to carry out testing.

"We apologise to everyone who has been affected by this matter today.

"We are contacting each one directly to apologise and re-book them as soon as possible."
