THE friends of a young man who died from a heroin overdose dragged his body from their flat and dumped it in a bus shelter, an inquest has heard.

Daniel Dare, 28, of Southmead Crescent, Crewkerne, had also been drinking in the run up to his death and the combination of drink and drugs proved fatal.

Mr Dare's father, Gary, in a written statement, said he had discovered shortly before that his son, who had been arrested on several occasions and had been to prison, was on drugs.

Daniel had gone to stay with friends in Vicarage Road, Wookey, ahead of his death on November 8 last year.

The inquest heard that he had been staying with Martin Day, who claimed to police at the time that he was called by two other friends in a neighbouring flat where Mr Dare had died after taking heroin.

The friends dragged his body out of the flat and across a lawn before leaving it at the bus shelter.

It was discovered at 8.30am by a woman walking her dog and a passing doctor, who unsuccessfully tried to revive Mr Dare.

Following a police investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to charge anyone.

Senior Somerset coroner Tony Williams recorded a conclusion that Daniel Dare's death was drug related with the cause given as heroin intoxication.

After his body was found, his family said they were 'devastated'.
