JUST shy of £4,000 was donated to the County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment charity last week.

Collection pots for SURE, which buys equipment for the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital, included £29.39 at the tea bar at the Beacon Centre reception; £7.08 at Trull Stores; £84.91 from Tesco Express, East Reach, Taunton; £30.04 at Tesco Express, High Street, Taunton; £46.11 at the One Stop Shop, Galmington; £117.35 at Tesco Express, Comeytrowe; £25.36 at Lizzies Kitchen, Burnham-on-Sea, and £4.69 from Styles Ice Cream Parlour, Burnham.

Donations in 5p coins included £2 from Alan Sutton; £4,60 from Bernard and Mary Spilsbury; £12 from Mrs D. B. Marks, of Taunton; £40 from Norman Tomkies, of Street; £10 from David Pavey and friends; £20 from West Buckland WI; £1.80 from Pauline Harrison; £50 from the Taunton Moose Ladies; £2.20 from Gill Sharp; £20.75 from Wendy Crawford, family and friends; £35 from V. Nelson, of Henlade; and £315.40 from the Beacon Centre, along with a further £39.59 in donations there.

Other donations were £200 from the Rotary Club, Burnham; £350 from a bucket collection at Tesco, Chard; £100 from John Wareham, of Chard; and £700 from a quiz and raffle at Victoria Park Bowling Club, Bridgwater.

There was also £60 from the line dancers at the Ritz, Burnham; £664 from the John Walker Band's potpourri concert at Wellington Arts Centre; and £850 from the UK Hydrographic Office running club, the Hydro Harriers, through the Piddle Wood Plod 10K race.

Donations of £20 were handed over by R. H. Stiling and also Brian Holmwood, of Norton Fitzwarren.

The total raised over the week was £3,822.09.
