A LITERACY charity is calling out for volunteers as it starts sessions to support children in Taunton.

Beanstalk aims to help children who need a little extra support with their reading by training reading helpers in schools across Somerset.

As the new school year approaches, the charity hopes to expand its work to support even more children in the area.

And it is now launching its first big appeal to recruit volunteer reading helpers.

The push also aims to coincide with International Literacy Day coming up on September 8.

Amelia Shaw, Somerset Area Manager for Beanstalk, says: “Volunteering as a Beanstalk reading helper is a great way to start a new chapter in your life and help a local child reach their true potential.

“That’s why we’re delighted to announce that we’re expanding our work to support children in all of Somerset who are struggling with their reading ability and confidence.

“Beanstalk is going from strength to strength in Somerset and we hope to have a big impact throughout the 2016-17 school year.”

From September, the charity will be working in schools in Yeovil, Bridgwater, Taunton and elsewhere across the county.
