READERS have been sharing fond memories and sadness at County Stores’ plan to close.
Kate Bousfield, of Taunton, bought her wedding dress there in 1983 and still has it.
She said: “It’s so sad as the store has been there my whole life although it has changed quite a bit over the years.
“It used to offer haberdashery and wedding dresses and it’s where I bought mine and my veil. It cost £105 which was quite a lot for 30 years ago but you could pay it off monthly and that was for everything.
“It’s such a shame as it’s a wonderful shop and sells unique things which I love buying for birthday and Christmas presents. I hope something can save it.”
Reader Lox, 61, who commented online, said: “So sad to hear that County Stores is to close.
"Thirty years ago in November I met my wife while we both worked at County Stores.
“We celebrated our silver wedding anniversary last week.
"It was such a great place to work with wonderful memories. This will be a great loss.”
