THE winner of the Halcon Ward Garden Competition has been revealed as Dennis Allen.

A colourful garden display at his Laxton Road home scored him the top marks among four other winners in the competition ran by the Halcon One Team.

Mr Allen said he was thrilled to win the award.

“Firstly, I couldn’t have done it without my friend Mike Pincombe who put the garden together for me, he is a very talented gardener,” he said.

“I designed the garden, but as I am 82 years old, Mike puts everything together for me.

“I used to be in the military police, everything was painted in white lines then so it is the inspiration of my garden now.

“But I also wanted it to be colourful, and it makes the white stand out so much better being surrounded by the pinks, reds and golds and everything else.”

A spokesman from Halcon One Team said: “We have now completed the Halcon Ward Garden Competition and have five prize winners, with Mr and Mrs Allen from Laxton Road taking the honours this year with a fantastically colourful garden.”

Next year, Mr Allen and his wife Pauline hope to have an apple tree in their garden which they hope to use as the centrepiece of their next design.
