WHEN you've been injured fighting for your country, what better way to undergo rehabilitation than climbing a 5,895-metre high dormant volcano?
Trull pilates teacher Jo Davenport and her husband and former Royal Marine Dave accompanied five Commandos climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania.
Jo said: "Dave and me are always up for a new challenge. It was tough and exhausting, but amazing.
"It was days of constant climbing ever upwards over crumbling, dusty rock and chilly nights spent camping at high altitudes, with limited oxygen making sleeping and even breathing difficult.
"Washing was limited to one small bowl of water per day – and it was a luxury to wash the dust from your hands. The climb took six days and the descent a day and a half."
The trek raised £756.50 for Taunton Mencap and £385.00 for the Royal Marines.
