AN EMERGENCY meeting to try and save the Blue Anchor toilets from closing took place this week.

Resident Alison Hart has teamed up with businesses and other concerned residents to try and keep the loos open as funding from West Somerset Council stops in April and the Parish Council do not have the funds to take them over.

Mrs Hart said: "It was a very positive meeting, Cllr Martin Dewdney from West Somerset Council was there and assured us that the loos would not be auctioned off.

"He also said there was some money available to help with the legal process and there is still enough time for that to go through before April 1."

The group will now look into the viability of keeping the loos open, and want to set up a website to act as a hub for people to get involved.

"There were around 30 people at the Driftwood Cafe meeting on Monday and we have already received pledges for donations and some people willing to offer their skills to help out," Mrs Hart said.
