THE parish of Otterford has undergone a pre-Christmas clean up after a team of 16 litter pickers rolled up their sleeves.

They collected 43 sacks of items left in hedgerows and beside the road containing an assortment of rubbish, including.

*15 tyres.

*six hubcaps.

*a shower tray.

*a suitcase.

*427 drinks cans.

*307 plastic bottles.

*55 glass bottles.

*pieces of car bodywork.

*scrap metals.

*cabling and tubing.

Otterford Parish Council chairman Mike Canham said: "In two hours, we collected 43 sacks of litter and a range of other things.

"Yet again, a substantial amount of litter came from food wrappings.

"After sorting, as much as possible has been recycled."

The council has a number of litter pickers, vests and hoops thanks to sponsorship, while they have also been supplied with other equipment and refuse sacks.

But it is looking for funding for temporary road signs for use during picking on the B3170 and the Holman Clavel Road, a litter bin for the layby at the top of Corfe Hill and after-pick refreshments - anyone who can help should contact 01460-234639.
