THE traditional Queen Caturn’s Night in Watchet returned this year with stalls, music and entertainment and including the much-loved Queen Caturn’s Parade.

The event, took place on November 26 between and marked the beginning of Christmas festivities in Watchet and illuminated the Christmas trees on Swain Street.

The Queen Caturn parade started at 4pm and saw crowds of people turn out to take part in the festivities and watch the procession.

Watchet Community Choir performed as well as Watchet Town Crier Dave Milton’s famous Punch and Judy performance.

Queen Caturn’s Night commemorates the link that Watchet had with Queen Catherine, wife of Charles II in the 17th Century who, as legend has it, would come to Watchet to buy cloth of Watchet Blue.

Every year to this day local people dress up in costume and join the parade, followed by the switching on of the Christmas lights.

There were various stall holders from local businesses at the event as well as a fleeting visit from Father Christmas himself much to the children's surprise.
