WAYNE the Chelston cockerel had something to crow about after being named as the best laced Wyandotte bird at the National Poultry Championships in the week of December 13, 1996.

He is seen here with owners Jim and Sue Morrish at their home, Hamlands, next to the Piccadilly Nursing Home.

Mr Morrish said: “This cockerel’s father won the prize for best cock in breed last year so we shall keep breeding from him and hope he produces future champions.

Mrs Morrish added: “We have 12 cockerels of several breeds and they all tend to crow loudly every morning. We don’t get many complaints because our neighbours are hard of hearing, but the ones that do hear them seem to enjoy the sound.”
