KING’s College Boys 1st XI notched up the double over their Sherborne counterparts after they won an intense and competitive game when the two sides met last week.

In the first half, both sides created a number of chances but were unable to convert them.

King’s broke the deadlock just before the interval following a well-worked move that saw Jamal Khoo beat the Sherborne defence and keeper.

However, they found themselves on the back foot as Sherborne started strongly in the second half, and the game would have been levelled if it hadn’t been for some key goal-line clearances by defenders Will Licence and Bertie Williams.

With 10 minutes to go, a well-delivered Matt Thorne corner ended with an excellent header from Dominic Scott-Bone and the win was secured.

This victory for King’s followed their 3-1 success at Sherborne earlier in the season.

Bertie Williams, who was praised by the Sherborne coaches for his performance in the King’s defence, was named as player of the match.

Chris Heayns, director of football at King’s Schools, said: “This was a thoroughly-deserved victory for the team after a really tough match.

“The squad have worked hard this season and this is being reflected in their results on the field.”

The team continued their good form when they went on to beat Exeter College 5-2 a few days later.
