FIREFIGHTERS called to a Somerset house by an ambulance crew forced entry and found a woman had collapsed and was unable to get up.

The crew was called to a property at the Avalon Estate, Glastonbury, just after noon today (December 9).

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "A fire appliance from Glastonbury was mobilised following a request for our attendance from Ambulance to gain entry to a property ... after a cause for concern for the welfare of the occupant was raised.

"Shortly after gaining entry our crew located the female occupant, who had collapsed in the living room and was unable to get up.

"We also discovered there had been a small fire, involving cooking utensils which had been left on the cooker hob, but was out on our arrival.

"After assisting the paramedic with the lady and making the cooker and kitchen area safe, crews naturally ventilated the two-storey privately owned house before leaving duty of care with the ambulance.

"Damaged was confined to the cooking tray only and the fire was confirmed to have started accidentally."
