ONE of Bridgwater's most beloved carnival clubs has submitted plans for a new home for its cart.

The British Flag Carnival Club has been appealing for funds since finding out it would lose its former shed on Colley Lane where it had been based for more than 60 years.

The application has been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council for permission to build a new shed on a currently unused part of the Old Westonzoyland Airfield.

The club were given notice to leave their former shed and club member Roger Brown said this problem of having to move would not be unique to British Flag CC.

"We had no option but to tear the old building down and completely clear the site," he said.

"Other clubs have faced pressure from landowners to move as land prices rise in Bridgwater."

"It is one aspect of the boom the town is experiencing as developers move in to build on land that for years has been used by carnival clubs to build their carts."

Throughout the year British Flag Carnival Club has been fundraising to try and raise funds to go toward the new shed, holding special quiz nights and organising a Buy a Brick campaign for the new shed.

In June the club also held a special final send-off party for the old shed in Colley Lane which featured club members past and present as well committee members and friends from other clubs.
