THE road between Spar Mini Roundabout in Williton and Washford Cross was closed earlier today following a crash between a car and a lorry.

The crash caused severe delays for road users with reports of traffic queuing in both directions.

Police, an ambulance and the fire service were all called to the scene.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision between a car and a lorry on the A39 Williton at Washford Cross at 12.30pm.

"The woman who was trapped in her car was released by firefighters and she had been taken to Musgrove Park Hospital, although reports suggest her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing."

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at 12.30pm to assist in the release from the car.

A spokesman said: "Three local appliances and the rescue tender were mobilized to the incident.

"On arrival crews located the collision, with one person still inside a vehicle.

"Crews got to work assisting with the extrication of the patient whilst the Ambulance Service monitored the patient.

"Both vehicles at scene were made safe by the Fire Service."

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance added: "We were called out at 12.23pm to the incident near Bank Street.

"There were two vehicles involved and one casualty. They received minor injuries and have been taken to Musgrove Park Hospital."

The road is now re-open.
