DEMOLITION works are set to take place this week at a pub in Wellington as part of a £3.6 million scheme.
The former Weavers Arms pub in Rockwell Green will be demolished to make way for 26 new council homes.
The work will include the removal of overhead power lines and the demolition of the Weavers Arms facade.
Popes Lane will be closed from today (Monday, January 16) until February 3 from the hours between 9.30am and 3pm.
The council says residents have been informed and diversion routes will be in place.
Cllr Terry Beale, executive councillor for Housing Services, said: “The council is committed to providing high quality social housing and this scheme is part of the ongoing programme of investment and regeneration.
"While it is regrettable that the road closure may cause some inconvenience it is necessary to ensure the work is carried out safely and without interruption.”
The adjacent public toilet block and ten Woolaway properties in Oaken Ground will also be demolished as part of the scheme.
