A CANCER charity based in Somerset has received a donation of £1,385 from a farm shop to help provide top class cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The funds were raised for the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (S.U.R.E), which is based in Taunton, by staff and customers at Rumwell Farm Shop and Cafe throughout 2016.

Anne Mitchell, joint owner of the farm shop and cafe, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, explained: “S.U.R.E was one of our chosen charities of the year for 2016 and we are delighted that we have managed to donate £1,385 to its cause.

“The money was raised in a number of ways from collection tins and a Charity Carvery and Quiz Evening to us donating 25p from each sale of our party meringues and also 10p from every pack of jelly beans.

"We also teamed up with the 1st Wellington Scout Group and hosted a car wash in aid of S.U.R.E in July.

“We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all our staff, customers and the 1st Wellington Scout Group for helping us raise this fantastic amount of money for the charity during the past year.”

S.U.R.E is a registered, independent charity.

Its objective is to raise funds to help provide top class cancer diagnosis and treatment at the Cancer Centre known as the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

Paul Alway, chairman at S.U.R.E, said: “We would like to thank Rumwell Farm Shop for supporting us throughout 2016.

"They have raised a magnificent amount of money for our charity.

“The money will go towards one of our projects for 2017, which is to offer a new Cancer Patient Counselling Centre - the HOPE Counselling Centre - in a separate building near to the Beacon Centre.”
