A SINGLE father from Spaxton became Sedgemoor's second Ninja Warrior UK contestant when he appeared on Saturday's episode.

Dance teacher Guy Barrington, 46, was persuaded to apply for the show at the suggestion of his nine-year-old son, Juan, who is a Ninja Warrior mega-fan.

"I was selected from 35,000 to take part, and of the 200 who were on TV, I was one of only 20 to have their story filmed," Mr Barrington said.

"I was 46 and not very fit but my soon was my motivator and I did climbing, cardio, lots of balance work and even climbing trees over six months.

"This was a great opportunity to make my son proud of me. I'm a single dad and this was a great experience together and the presenters Chris Kamara and Ben Shepherd were very positive," he said.

Mr Barrington teaches dance all over Europe and was teaching at a newly opened school in Denmark when the episode aired.

"We stopped the lesson so we could put it on, and gathered round the screen, it was very surreal.

"I made it to the fifth obstacle, it is very hard to train for because you don't know what obstacles will come up until an hour before you are set to run the course.

"I was really pleased to get as far as I did," he said.

The hit TV show attracts 3-4 million viewers each week and features contestants taking on one of the hardest obstacle courses on TV.

Guy follows hard on the heels of Bridgwater Parkour runner Jacob Peregrine-Wheller who made it through the second round of the series in an earlier episode, and will be appearing again in the coming weeks.

The episode is available on the ITV Player now.
