MEMBERS of the Burnham & Highbridge Choral Society recently took part in 'Bristol Scratch Chorus & Orchestra' which raises money for Cancer Research UK.

There was a choir of 250 and a orchestra of 300, all of whom paid to be a part of this free annual fundraising concert.

It is a 'Scratch' event, which means that those taking part, print their music, learn it at home, then arrive at 8.30am on the day to rehearse, then perform it all at 4pm in concert.

The audience are simply asked to place a donation into the Cancer research bucket.

This event has been going for several years and has raised, so far, and not including this year, £45,000.

This year's event included a light stick rendition of 'Wimawa' with audience participation.

Unbeknown to the people taking part, The BBC Points West camera crew arrived to film a segment from the rehearsal, for the evening news.

Julie Skinner from The Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society said: "Members enjoy the challenge that this day brings, and enjoy the camaraderie between the different singers and musicians taking part.

"There is also a lot of laughter between the choir and Orchestra too. We all had a fantastic day.

"Some of the choir members will be taking part in next year's event, which is on Sunday, January 28."

The choral society's Annual Concert is on Saturday, April 29 in St. John's Church, Highbridge and will feature music from around Europe, with Guest soloist Rhodri Prys Jones.
