A TAUNTON florists is in the running for a top national award.

County Flowers, of East Reach, has picked up a Silver Award of Excellence after successfully completing the first round of the Flower Shop of the Year 2007 Awards.

The overall winner, which will be announced in January, will receive a £5,000 cash prize as well as the prestigious title of Flower Shop of the Year 2007.

To pass the first round, the shop had to demonstrate knowledge, expertise and understanding in several areas - retail planning, sales and marketing initiatives, business development and improving profitability.

The next stage is to compete head to head and hopefully win through to the next round and pick up a Gold Award.

County Flowers is the only florists in Somerset in the second round.
