A MAN has been charged with kidnap and wounding after a serious assault following an incident in which a man was injured in Bridgwater.

Police were alerted after the alleged victim knocked on a householder’s door in Spaxton having been seriously assaulted last Tuesday, police say.

Police enquiries led to the arrest of Glen Squire, aged 24, of Canal Road, Taunton, who was later charged with Section 18 wounding and kidnap.

Mr Squire appeared at Taunton Magistrates’ Court on Friday, when he was remanded in custody.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said that a second man has been arrested in connection with the alleged incident.

He was released on police bail pending further enquiries after being quizzed by detectives.

The victim was treated in hospital for his injuries but has now been released.

DS Mark Probert said: “Firstly, I would like to thank the local community for their assistance and patience.

"There will be an increased police presence in the area while our investigation continues. Anyone with information regarding this incident, can still contact us on 101 and quote crime reference number 5217034115.”

DS Probert added that this incident is not currently being connected to another assault they are investigating which took place in Albert Street, Bridgwater, on Wednesday of last week, in which officers cordoned off a road and a section of the canal path as part of their investigation.

To contact police about either incident call 101 and quote Taunton 5217034115 and Bridgwater 5217034521.
