SIX people from Taunton have been arrested for drug offences.

Three men and three women have been arrested after Avon and Somerset Police carried out drug warrants in the Holway area of Taunton.

The six were all arrested for a number of offences including possession with the intent to so supply Class A drugs.

One of the women was also arrested for a breach of an injunction issued by her housing provider, Knightstone Housing Association, and was taken straight to Crown Court.

The police carried out the raid at approximately 10am and seized drugs, approximately £5k in cash and suspected stolen property including £800 worth of stolen alcohol believed to be from a shop theft in Yeovil.

Eight people were found in the residential property, and six were arrested. Five were from the Taunton area and one is believed to be from the West Midlands.

Five of those arrested were taken to the Bridgwater Custody Unit to be interviewed.

Chief Inspector Lisa Simpson, local policing commander for Somerset West, said: “My officers carried out the search warrant today as a direct result of information being provided by the community about suspected drug dealing. So first of all I want to say thank you to the public for getting in touch.

“This is an excellent demonstration of the police and the public working together to tackle a difficult and complex issue which in one way or another negatively affects individuals, families, local residents and the wider community.

"Nobody wants drug dealing on their doorstep. It brings with it misery, associated anti-social behaviour and other petty crime.

“The community have made it clear they don’t want it in their neighbourhood, I won’t tolerate it and my officers will take proactive action to deal with it. Please keep talking to us, either directly or via Crimestoppers.

“This activity is just part of a range of proactive operations we are undertaking across Somerset to deal with drug dealing. It won’t end here.

“We will continue to work with our partners to deal with this kind of crime, and with other agencies to help support those with addiction.

“We want to know about anyone suspected to be housing drug dealers or allowing the supply of drugs from their premises. We also want to hear from anyone who is worried about friends, neighbours or relatives they feel might be vulnerable to drug dealers due to dependency or debt.”
