THE new town councillor for Wellington's Rockwell Green ward has been elected.
Lynda Russell-Cairns beat the other three candidates in a close-call race that took place yesterday (Thursday, February 23).
Mrs Russell-Cairns, the Conservative candidate, won the election with 118 votes.
She said: "I am elated, absolutely elated.
"I can't believe it. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone that came out in the storm to vote."
In joint second was Labour Candidate Kieran Canhan with 112 votes and Independent candidate Nick Smith also with 112 votes.
Fourth place went to Mark Lithgow of the Liberal Democrats with 74 votes.
The election saw 417 ballot papers issued with a turnout of 20.85 per cent.
