IF you're stuck on what to get your number one from the kids this Mother's Day, why not head to the garden centre?

Monkton Elm Garden and Pet Centre is hosting the planting workshops for youngsters to plant baskets flowers at the end of March ahead of the big day on Sunday, March 26.

The workshops will take place on March 24 and 25 from 9.30am until 1pm and from 2pm to 4.30pm and on March 26 from 10.30am until 1pm and 2pm until 3pm.

Andrew Pitman, store manager at the garden centre in Monkton Heathfield near Taunton, said: “It’s always nice for mums to receive a special gift from their sons or daughters on Mother’s Day so we thought we would offer children the opportunity to plant up baskets of pansies or violas for their mums.

“The workshops will take place in our seasonal plant hall and all of the materials will be provided, including an array of locally-grown pansies and violas that children can choose from.”

People are welcome to drop in to either workshop on the days, no booking is necessary. The workshops will cost £2.99 per child and all children will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Andrew added: “As well as making a lovely gift, the workshops are a great way to get children interested in gardening and learning how to plant something up.

“It looks set to be a fun day and our expert staff will be on hand to guide and help youngsters through the process.”
