ACE bird-spotter Ben Williams caused a flutter on the top BBC TV show that's life on Saturday night... and he wasn't even three years old.

The chirpy toddler, from Lydeard St Lawrence, displayed his amazing talent for identifying birds in front of millions of viewers in the week of February 21, 1992.

Ben sat next to presenter Esther Rantzen and named the birds from illustrated books, to the delight of his audience.

His mum Jane, 32, said he thoroughly enjoyed it.

She said: "Obviously, Ben can't read so he points to pictures and asks us to tell him what they are.

"He must have a photographic memory, because he always remembers what they are called. He can even mimic the sounds of some of them,

"He can identify animals as well, our family and friends think it's unbelievable and Ben enjoys showing them what he can do. He's very sociable and bright."

During his trip to London, Jane took Ben to Hyde Park and Trafalgar Square.

She added: "He was mesmerised by all the birds there - and he could identify them."
