A MAN from Somerset has been charged with slavery offences after police discovered a cannabis farm in an underground nuclear bunker.

Martin Fillery, 45, from Pedwell near Bridgwater, was among six men who were arrested in Wiltshire on Thursday.

Martin Fillery, alongside Plamen Nguyen, 27, and Ross Winter, 30, will appear in court on Saturday accused of conspiracy to produce the Class B drug, Wiltshire Police said.

It was first believed that all three men were from Somerset, but it has since been revealed that Plamen Nguyen and Winter are from Bristol.

Police made the discovery of the plants, which they believe could have been worth more than £1 million, during a midnight raid this week at RGHQ Chilmark, a 1980s bunker in Wiltshire.

The men were charged with conspiring to hold another person in slavery/servitude and abstracting electricity without authority.

They will appeared at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Saturday, February 25, and were remanded in custody until they will appear before Salisbury Crown Court on March 29.

Prosecuting, Michelle Hewitt told the court: "This case relates to a large scale and sophisticated cannabis production set up in a disused nuclear bunker.

"The yield is estimated to be around £1 million."

Wiltshire Police added that three other men, all aged over 18, would be released without charge.
