TRADERS are being called upon to join Watchet's monthly Street Fairs.

Watchet's Coastal Community Team will be running the events for a second year after the inaugural 2016 set of fairs proved to be a success.

The Street Fairs will be restarting in April and will run on the first Sunday of every month until October.

They will include live music, street foods from around the world, children's entertainment from circus skills to instrument making, as well as stalls from a collection of traders.

The Watchet Coastal Community team said last year's Street Fairs were a huge success, and led to a threefold increase in the number of visitors to the town.

The fair committee now hope to build on this start, and is calling for new stall holders to join.

The committee says it would particularly welcome applications from start-ups, craft, vintage, up-cycling and artisan food traders.

Organiser Molly Quint said: “The Street Fairs are a marvellous celebration of Watchet, and help people to develop their businesses while bringing more visitors into the town.

"We’re now looking for more fabulous local traders to join us.”

Watchet Coastal Communities Team, which is the organisation behind the Street Fairs, is made up of residents, businesses and organisations in Watchet and includes town council, district council, Watchet Chamber of Trade, Onion Collective CIC, Conservation Society, Market House Museum, West Somerset Railway, Watchet Boat Owners Association and other business representatives.

The Fairs are funded by the central government national initiative Coastal Communities, which aims to boost Britain’s coastal towns.

Georgie Grant of the Onion Collective said: “The Watchet Street Fairs aim to attract more visitors to Watchet, celebrate local festivities, as well as helping to support start-up businesses in the area.

"Happily, we’re already seeing evidence that they are succeeding in these areas.”

Pitches are priced at £20 with gazebo and £15 if you bring your own. Market set-up times will be from 9am to 6pm.
