DULVERTON musician Dave Towers' dream of launching a folk festival in the town to rival others in the South West could be turning into reality.

A brand new traditional Folk Festival is attracting big names from the folk scene on their way to the renowned Sidmouth Folk Festival, as well as lots of local talent.

Dave said: "We've a great line-up and an exciting programme of events. There are three concerts in the town hall, a series of workshops and plenty of fringe events around the town to surprise and entertain our visitors."

The festival gets underway on Friday, July 27 with guitarist Maurice Condie and Irish music singer Gillian Tolfrey. Up-and-coming singer-songwriter George Papavgeris will join the duo.

They will be supported by local performers, Stephen Snow, and Vikki Nuttall, who lives in Dulverton and sings and plays guitar locally.

On Saturday, July 28, the Town Hall will be given over to a series of daytime workshops including guitar, Appalachian dulcimer, song writing, singing, and melodeon, followed by an evening concert.

More events around the town take place on Sunday, July 29, and throughout the weekend local pubs will be hosting informal music sessions, and the Bridge Inn is hosting a real ale festival.
