In this week's column Sedgemoor FM's DJ Dave Englefield reflects on the Beacon Of Hope concert fundraising success:

I wanted to start this week with a thank you. A BIG thank you.

On Saturday, March 4, I had the privilege of compering the very first Beacon Of Hope concert at the Blake Hall.

I say the first, because it was originally intended as a one-off, there are now plans for another one next year.

All proceeds from the night went to the Beacon Ward at Musgrove who do such a fantastic job and more than £5,500 has been raised so far.

If you were there, or contributed, thank you. Special thanks need to go Dan and the team at the Blake Hall, the bands (who gave their time for free) and also to Malcolm, Linda and Paul who came up with the idea as a way of remembering an amazing lady, Elaine (Elsie), who was in all our thoughts on the night.

I’m sure she will have been looking down wondering, with a smile, what all the fuss and nonsense was for. It was also yet another example of the people of our town coming together and creating a night that will live long and happily in the memories of those who were there.

On the radio side of things, preparations have begun in the planning of our first birthday on April 4.

I’m sworn to secrecy as to the details but make sure you keep listening as they will be unveiled in due course. Also, just want to take this chance to wish Paige a very Happy 21st Birthday.

You will see Paige out and about at many of the events we attend, but hearing her on the radio is rarer than finding a £6 note. Happy Birthday Paige.
