WELLESLEY Cinema has linked up with a Wellington dementia group to host a nostalgic movie event.

The cinema has joined up with Wellington Dementia Action Alliance (WDAA) to bring a night of fun for service providers and their clients during Dementia Awareness Week.

The event takes place on Thursday, May 18, with a showing of Singing in the Rain starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds.

More than 150 seats will be donated to dementia suffers and staff members with other tickets available for £5.

Craig Holmes, chairman of the WDAA, said: “I am absolutely delighted at the support that Merlin has given to this initiative.

“Our alliance members recognised the need to improve access to some of the facilities and services in the town and when presented with this idea, the management at Merlin quickly came on board.

"I am particularly grateful to cinema manger, Daniel Taylor, who has been so enthusiastic about hosting the event and how this partnership might develop."

The group hopes it can continue to work with Wellesley cinema operator in providing films, theatre, and live productions to people suffering with dementia in a regular event.

Tickets for the event can be bought at the cinema or online.
