A WELLINGTON councillor who passed away last week will be honoured with a minute silence at the next council meeting. 

Gloria Copley passed away on Thursday, March 23, at the age of 84. 

She had been a Wellington councillor for 12 years and also served as mayor in 2013. 

Gloria also served as a Taunton Deane Borough councillor for four years. 

Information on the town council's website says: "Gloria came to live in Wellington in 1967 and taught in Taunton until 1993. She was married with three children and two grandchildren.

"She was born in London, Gloria was evacuated in the war to Northampton and went to school there. She qualified with a Cert.Ed in Liverpool in the fifties and then Open University BA graduating in 1992.

"After graduating Gloria worked with children with learning problems and completed the diploma in specific learning difficulties at Bridgwater College.

"Gloria enjoyed being involved with life in Wellington and was on the town Twinning Committee since 1978 and was a foundation governor of St John’s C of E Primary School and also a governor of Popham Almshouses.

"She belonged to the Museum Society and Friends of Wellington Park."

The town council meeting takes place on April 3 at 7pm.
