WHAT would you like to see on a Taunton Monopoly board game coming out later this year?

How about the Museum of Somerset instead of Mayfair, or the Orchard Shopping Centre replacing Oxford Street?

Maybe the County Gazette taking the place of Fleet Street or The Brewhouse Theatre being sited on Leicester Square?

Or what do you think about going back three spaces for getting stuck in traffic in Fore Street on a Chance card or being sent to Bristol instead of jail?

Well, you can have a say on the layout of the new board after Taunton polled more than half the 7,000-plus votes in a contest to find a Somerset city or town to feature in a Monopoly game coming out in October.

Votes and suggestions can be made by e-mailing taunton@winningmoves.co.uk or by post to Monopoloy Taunton Edition, Winning Moves UK, 7 Praed Street, London W2 1NJ before midnight on Wednesday, April 19.

Graham Barnes, of game maker Winning Moves UK, said Weston-super-Mare came second, Glastonbury was third, fourth was Wells, with Yeovil last in the poll.

He said: "We'd like to thank the county for getting behind the vote and congratulations to Taunton - it will make a fantastic board.

"We'll be starting with a blank canvas and are open to suggestions from people who live in the area.

"We expect to see a big demand for the game when it comes out in October, with WH Smith, Waterstone's and Amazon all interested in stocking it."

Gemma Nelmes, from Taunton, who dropped in on the launch at the Museum of Somerset, in Taunton, today (Thursday), said: "I wish it was out already so I could buy it for a work colleague who's leaving today.

"I'll definitely be getting the game myself."

Somerset County Gazette:

Dan Broadbent, museum assistant visitors service manager, said: "We're delighted to have the launch here and pleased to be part of it.

"It will be interesting to see where the museum is on the board."

Tens of thousands of a Somerset Monopoly sold tens of thousands of boards after it was issued in 2007, although it is no longer available.
